PACMAN!!!

I use to play #Pacman ALL THE TIME back in the day and be pretty good at it too! It was a simple game but one that you got hooked on much like the games today. The cake above was requested by a husband for this wife who was... you guessed it, having a baby, it's a baby shower cake, according to him his wife is a fanatic about Pacman and is quite good at it too. We made a #redvelvet cake which was frosted and filled with cream cheese buttercream and then covered in fondant. My original thought was to make the bottom tier black with the Pacman grid and ghosts and cherries you know like the way the games graphics look, but then thought keeping it in the tradition of a baby shower theme so pale colors were used. Behold, the Pacman baby shower cake above!

My Favorite cake.

I love love love this cake, I think because it's simplistic in design and because I love pigs, if I didn't live in NYC I would have a pig and one of those miniature horses too, you know like the one on the #Amazon commercial where the little guy isn't accepted by the other horses so the owner buys a low entry door for him to come inside to be with her for company. Lol! Back to the cake. Made for little Chloe who we are actually making another cake for this week, it's a two-tiered cake made out of chocolate and covered in fondant.  This week's cake is a Lego's Friends cake and it's a playground scene with the five girls on it. Happy Birthday Choe!

Chanel Bag Cake

The #Chanelbag, always in style, season after season, and not just the real thing but also when it's made into a cake, I wonder if #CocoChanel knew that her designs would become so iconic. The bag above was made from chocolate cake that was then frosted with vanilla buttercream and then covered in fondant and then painted with a gold edible paint, looks like the real think doesn't it? Call to order one 212 665-0990.

The Mask Cake

We made this cake for a customer who's sister was have a surprise party. The triangles that are going around the top of the cake are actually spades  I think I was told there was a drink called the #Aceofspaces, a champagne, I'm not sure what the mask was for nevertheless the cake turned out beautifully. The cake was a red velvet cake with a chocolate frosting.

Je Suis Charlie!

I think in honor of the victims of the #CharlieHebdo office and the other victims in #Paris I will not present a cake this week for the blog, cake represents a time of celebrating and this is definitely not the time for celebrations but a time to reflect about what has happened and ask ourselves if we too are a part of #JeSuisCharlie (I am Charlie) because freedom of speech is paramount in our society today we've fought hard for it, it's in the Constitution, but it is NOW clearly evident that it is not in different parts of the worlds and within different sects. What are your thoughts?

Honoring a Good Thing that Will be Lost to Yesteryear.

My client wanted a cake for a #party she was having in #MontaukNY. The cake was to be a replica of the landmark #EastDeckMotel a surfer's haven which had just been acquired by a group of investors who are secretly going to most probably make it into a members only property with high end amenities. My client as many of the locals and various Montauk home owners from the City were against the project and the cake was an homage to the motel, Edie 40 replaced the sign East Deck Motel that sits atop of the real structure, and the scale was smaller to accommodate the party goers for the evening. Covered in fondant we texturized the sides of the building with an impression mat and layered it to make it look like real wooden shingles. Then we marbelized brown fondant and divided it into equal long slabs to replicate wooden planks. My client loved it! It really did look like the East Deck Motel.

It's All in the Details!

The customer who ordered this #fallthemedcake sent six different photos of cakes and a long list of things she wanted on the #cake we were creating for her. It's not that she wanted us to reproduce anyone else's cake but she want us to use different elements from each. The phone call were maddening and the emails got very confusing after a while (see initial email below (English is not her first language)), BUT... we somehow pulled it off and the customer commented that it was beautiful! Thank God!

First email
Hi

I would like to give you an idea for how I would like the cake to be for the 27th September 2014.
https://www.facebook.com/Snookysoven?ref=hl
It can be two tier 6” first tier and the second tier 4”. We would like it to be for 20 - 25 people.

I like the fence in the fence cake and everything else from the second fall-cakes.

Just to give you an idea of what I think will look nice and i would prefer to have for the cake is the little fence around the first tier instead of those white pearl look. You could consider one inch of wafer cookies too.

Then inside the fence it would be the same almost as the fall cake photo with the green stripes and off white background and dried leaves, pumpkins, sunflower, creepers all like it is in the fall cake snap.

Second tier creepers going up on the second tier with the dried leaves, pumpkins, sunflowers and the wooden banner kind of look saying EVA AND ARYA. Just add owls too sitting on any tier sitting on the creeper or fence.

On top of the second tier make a small barren tree on the top with an owl sitting on it and two pumpkins under it, next to that pumpkins in a cart overflowing and everywhere around. Or just make two pumpkins under the tree if that takes all the space. You can also have the wooden banner on the top instead of on the second tier just a thought. I would like the tree to be like the tree in the tree photo attached.

Let me know your thoughts and pricing please.

Thanks,
Chandini

Get in Shape for Summer.

It's that time of year again, time to get into shape if you haven't maintained it. All spring and summer long I see #Soulcycle tee shirts, hoodies, and locations around the city it must be the IT place for spin classes. Anyway, this cake was made for a SoulCycle enthusiast and we thought it was perfect for this time of the year when we are trying to get in shape or take our workout routine to the next level. Made out of fondant and gumpaste which is covering a lemon cake with passion fruit buttercream.

She Wanted Red Bottom Shoes

This cake was made for our client's friend who really wanted a pair of Louboutin shoes and was waiting to be able to purchase a pair (they're expensive). Her friend, no her BFF wanted to make a special cake for her so she choose the theme of the cake and called us on a Monday for that weekend's delivery, normally we needed more time for such an order but she sounded desperate and asked very nicely for us to help her, so we did. Made of red velvet cake and frosted with cream cheese buttercream and then covered with fondant this cake took a little over two days to finish, you see it takes time for the shoe to be constructed and then it has to harden before we can handle it to put the details on it. Just say pretty please and your wish is our command, well sometimes.

I watched a whole day marathon of the last season of the show Breaking Bad two Sundays ago. It was riveting, I only left my coach the whole day to get snacks and to use the bathroom during intermissions and between episodes. I'm still wondering how some of the characters developed into who they became, I guess I will just have to see the other seasons on Netflix to understand.
This cake was ordered ironically the Tuesday after I watched the marathon by two Netherlanders who were also watching the show back home but season two. Their stay was in NYC at the Waldorf Astoria which to my surprise is actually two different hotels housed under on roof, who knew! I and the client chatted about the series and it bizarre story lines (I won't give any of them away) for at least 5 minutes before placing the order for the cake, Breaking Bad is obviously a big hit abroad as well. Can't wait to see seasons one through four.

Mind Craft

This cake was made for a young gamer who spends countless hours playing Mind Craft. As simple as the design may appear it was actually very tedious in that we had to make everything look like a tile (  pixel like patches) by gridding out fondant and then cutting it by hand, some of the squares where large but quite a few where small as can be seen with the eyes and mouths of the characters and made for a frustrating ride.

It took three days to complete this ATAT Walker 3D cake and boy was it a monster! I was pulling my hair out, my assistant was pulling her hair out and then we pulled each other's hair out. The details of the guns at the head (that's what I'm calling it) were really tedious but we got them done. Stabilizing this cake was also a daunting task, it took real power tools to make it happen. And the delivery? I could cry thinking about it, someone had to hold it while staying in a crazy position in the back of a van while I drove less than 50 miles per hour. Oh and did I mention we had to deliver it from Manhattan to Suffolk Long Island. I cried then but I can laugh now. Lol!
